From Warm Springs to the Underground: The Rise of XILLA GORE-REL-A
From the small town of Warm Springs and the city of Columbus GA comes an artist whose sound is anything but small. At 38 years old, XILLA GORE-REL-A represents a collision of Southern grit, metal aggression, and raw personal storytelling that refuses to be boxed in.
Southern Roots, Heavy Influence
Growing up immersed in the evolution of Southern hip-hop, XILLA GORE-REL-A soaked up the sounds coming out of Memphis, Atlanta, Louisiana, and Texas. Influences like Outkast, Three 6 Mafia, T.I., Pastor Troy, Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, and Pimp C helped shape his Southern backbone.
But his playlist didn’t stop there.
He also gravitated toward the raw intensity of nu-metal and rap-rock, pulling inspiration from bands like Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and the revolutionary energy of Rage Against the Machine. That blend of trap drums, country rap storytelling, and distorted, high-energy aggression defines his catalog today.
“I’m Southern by birth,” he explains, “but I grew up loving nu metal too. If you like any of that type of music, that’s what you’re going to get from me, in my own fashion.”
The Birth of XILLA GORE-REL-A
The name alone commands attention.
After cutting his first record seven years ago, he needed a stage name, fast. A song by Yelawolf was playing in the background, mentioning “Zilla Gorilla.” The phrase stuck. He ran with it, but in true rebel fashion, he flipped the spelling.
Zilla became “Xilla” — a sharp, aggressive twist. Gorilla became “Gore-Rel-A,” adding a darker, metal-inspired edge. He even stamps his name with an anarchy symbol, a nod to individuality and refusal to conform.
The result? A name as genre-bending as his sound.
Music From Real Life
XILLA GORE-REL-A doesn’t create characters. He doesn’t fabricate stories. Everything he writes comes from personal experience.
“Every emotion, every crazy moment, it’s real,” he says. “Sometimes I might get a little wild with it, but that’s how I felt at that time.”
One of his most meaningful releases is the song “FAMILY TREE,” a record created with his 18-year-old son. What started as a simple request — “Dad, I want to do a song” — turned into a powerful collaboration, recorded on the spot and later mixed by Dub 3030. It stands as more than just a track; it’s a generational moment captured in sound.
Another standout project, Baptized by Flames, dives deep into personal struggles and self-reflection, showing a more vulnerable side behind the aggressive delivery.
The Creative Process
When it’s time to work, the formula is simple.
He digs through instrumentals until something truly moves him. Once he invests in a beat, he heads to Pro Tools, fueled by creativity. And, as he openly admits, “grade A cannabis” laying down punch-ins until the track feels complete.
There’s no overthinking. No forced writing sessions. Just emotion meeting rhythm in real time.
The Independent Grind
Being fully independent hasn’t been easy.
For XILLA GORE-REL-A, the biggest challenge isn’t talent, it’s exposure. Building social media platforms, staying consistent with content, releasing singles every two weeks, and balancing family life and a full-time career makes the journey uphill.
“Music comes third in my life,” he admits. “Family and my career come first. I’ve never been able to put my full energy behind it, but I still make it happen.”
That work ethic has kept him consistent for seven years straight. Small rooms. Countless handshakes. Quiet networking moves. Continuous releases. And the belief that it only takes one song to change everything.
What’s Next?
He’s not slowing down.
With a steady stream of new singles and remixes dropping biweekly, XILLA GORE-REL-A remains open to collaborations with artists who are serious about their craft. His catalog already reflects years of dedication, and he hints that you never know who might show up on a future record.
As for the future?
“Hopefully bigger and better,” he says. “There’s no telling what’s coming. But I’ll still be doing this. I have an ever-dying passion for it.”
From Warm Springs to wherever the next opportunity leads, XILLA GORE-REL-A continues to carve out his lane, Southern to the core, metal in the veins, and unapologetically original.
