Amaya Nicole: Turning Feeling Into Art
At 19 years old, Amaya Nicole is already proving that vulnerability isn’t a weakness — it’s her greatest strength. A singer-songwriter with roots in Fair Oaks, California, now based in Idaho, Amaya is building a career on honesty, emotion, and songs that sit with you long after they end.
Music has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. “I’ve had a love for music, mainly singing, since I could talk,” she says. That passion was nurtured early on by her grandfather, a drummer who spent years playing in bands and never hesitated to support her love for music. By the time Amaya was 16, that love turned into intention. She began writing more seriously, and at 17, she released her first song — a defining moment that marked the beginning of her journey as an artist.
Influences That Shaped the Artist
Growing up, Taylor Swift was more than just a favorite artist — she was an inspiration. “She’s been my idol since I was able to even understand who she was,” Amaya says. From storytelling to emotional honesty, Swift’s influence can be felt throughout Amaya’s songwriting.
Outside of music, her biggest inspirations are much closer to home. Her grandfather’s unwavering support gave her confidence early on, but it’s her mother who has shaped her most deeply. “She’s all I can hope to be and more,” Amaya says — a sentiment that reflects the grounding presence behind her artistic drive.
Music for the Overly Sentimental
Amaya describes her music as being “for the people who are overly sentimental, and never get over anything.” Lyrically driven and emotionally open, her sound leans heavily into pop singer-songwriter territory, with subtle country influences woven throughout.
Her songs don’t rush healing — they sit in the feeling, letting listeners process emotions they may not have words for yet.
Facing Doubt and Choosing the Risk
One of the biggest challenges Amaya has faced hasn’t been external — it’s been internal. “It’s a huge struggle trying to figure out if pursuing music in this way is my best option,” she admits. Watching peers go to college or work full time has made that uncertainty even louder at times.
Still, she pushes forward. Supported by a strong community and guided by a fearless mindset, Amaya chooses possibility over regret. “I’d rather wonder what would happen if I succeeded than if I didn’t try,” she says — a philosophy that defines her path.
Making Listeners Feel Less Alone
At the core of Amaya Nicole’s artistry is connection. “My entire goal with my music is to show listeners that they aren’t alone in the things they go through,” she explains. When she struggles, she turns to music that mirrors her emotions — and she wants her songs to serve that same purpose for others.
Her music isn’t just something to listen to; it’s something to lean on.
From Notes App to Final Track
There’s no single formula behind Amaya’s creative process. Sometimes inspiration strikes unexpectedly, landing in her notes app as scattered thoughts or lines. Other times, ideas build slowly over months — or even years.
Once a concept feels strong enough, she moves to piano or guitar, searching for a chord progression that feels right. From there, the song takes shape in its own time. Some tracks come together in an hour; others take two years. After finishing a song, she brings it to her producer, where an eight-hour studio session turns it into a final track. Once the release date is set, marketing begins — a process she approaches with the same care as the music itself.
A Quiet Win That Meant Everything
While Amaya has achieved several milestones, one moment stands out most. Winning Best Singer of her graduating class was something she never expected — especially after moving to her town at 14. “That’s something I never thought I’d do,” she says, making the recognition all the more meaningful.
Standing Out by Staying True
In a crowded music industry, Amaya’s plan is simple — and powerful. “Just keep going,” she says. She believes persistence alone makes failure unlikely, as long as she refuses to give up.
She’s also focused on developing her own signature as an artist — a recognizable aesthetic and emotional throughline that feels uniquely hers. And she’s made a personal promise: never turn down an opportunity she’s given.
All In, No Backup Plan
One thing Amaya wishes people understood better is just how serious she is. “I’m literally putting everything into this career path,” she says. Music isn’t a side hobby or a phase — it’s the plan. With no backup option, the stakes are high, and sometimes that commitment is misunderstood or overlooked.
But she’s okay with that — because she knows what she’s building.
What’s Next
Amaya Nicole is stepping into a busy and exciting season. Her new single “Superman” drops on February 19, with another release already lined up. She plans to release a significant amount of music this year, continuing to build her catalog and her audience.
In May, she’ll also take the stage at “A Fantastic Showcase” in Boise, Idaho, performing an original song alongside other songwriters — another meaningful step forward in a journey that’s only gaining momentum.
