Dustin OdDjOb Butcher: Mixing City Grit and Country Roots in the Rap Game

At 31 years old, OdDjOb has carved out his own lane in the music world, blending the grit of city life with the soul of the countryside. Growing up between Utica and Mount Vernon, Ohio, he absorbed both worlds — the hustle of the city and the raw, grounded perspective of small-town life. That balance now bleeds into every bar, every beat, and every performance he delivers.

Music as Therapy Turned Passion

OdDjOb didn’t pick up music for fame — he picked it up for survival. “I started making music as a way of therapy to get my emotions out,” he admits. At just 17, he began recording and releasing tracks, quickly finding himself on stage at a local bar every weekend with his friends. Those early nights performing weren’t just practice runs — they were the foundation of an artist who found freedom in expression and connection through sound.

Influences That Shaped His Sound

When asked about who shaped him, OdDjOb’s list is as layered as his music. On one side, he cites legends like 2Pac, Tom Petty, and Jelly Roll as musical influences. On the other, he credits his grandfather, mother, and stepdad for grounding him with values and lessons outside of the booth. That duality — hard-hitting hip-hop icons mixed with personal family inspiration — explains why his music carries both edge and heart.

A Style All His Own

OdDjOb isn’t interested in sounding like anyone else. He calls himself a country rap artist, but his sound is far from predictable. “Although I’m a Country rap Artist, my music tends to be a mix of a griddy trap style with country aspects and a fast-paced flow,” he says. And when he’s not bringing that raw energy, he shifts gears completely, diving into slow, relatable tracks about mental health, adversity, and everyday struggles. It’s a range most artists can’t pull off — but OdDjOb thrives in both lanes.

Breaking Through The Noise

Like many independent artists, OdDjOb’s biggest struggle has been simply getting heard. “In today’s world everyone is an artist and the market is very oversaturated,” he explains. “It’s hard to make yourself stick out.” When the venue where he first got his start shut down, he had to figure out a new way forward. But he didn’t quit — and that persistence paid off.

The Win That Changed Everything

In 2020, OdDjOb entered Rich Regal’s Performance Competition — a move that would prove to be career-defining. “It really set the pace for my career and I wouldn’t be where I am today if I would have never entered and took the risk.” That victory wasn’t just about bragging rights — it gave him momentum, credibility, and the confidence to keep pushing forward.

Authenticity Above All

In a rap scene flooded with gimmicks and copycats, OdDjOb doesn’t believe in playing a role. “I don’t really have a plan to stand out. I just let my music speak for itself and stay humble and authentic. So far it’s worked pretty well.” That grounded perspective might just be the reason his fanbase continues to grow — listeners are hungry for realness, and OdDjOb delivers it unapologetically.

The Grind Behind the Music

One thing OdDjOb wishes fans understood better is the grind behind every track. “Fans don’t typically realize we dump in 10× what we get back,” he says. Every song carries hours of work, money invested, and passion poured in — sacrifices most people will never see. For him, it’s not about quick success but about building something lasting.

What’s Next for OdDjOb Butcher

Right now, OdDjOb is focused on creating. While he’s usually out performing and touring, he’s taking time to sharpen his music and marketing. He hints at big collaborations with bigger names coming soon, but for now, he’s keeping the details quiet. What’s certain is that he’s far from slowing down — if anything, this break is setting him up for an even bigger breakthrough.
