Big Buck Beezy: Turning Small-Town Life Into Big-Time Music
Small-Town Beginnings in Portage
At 33 years old, Big Buck Beezy is carving out his own lane in the ever-evolving world of country rap, straight from the small-town heart of Portage, Wisconsin. His music isn’t manufactured or trend-chasing; it’s lived-in, honest, and pulled directly from the dirt roads, deer camps, and backwoods traditions that shaped him.
“Portage is the area that shaped me,” he says, a simple statement that carries the weight of everything he represents.
Life in the Sticks: Where the Music Comes From
Growing up in Portage, Beezy’s world was built on routine, responsibility, and real-life experiences. There weren’t endless entertainment options—just the outdoors, hard work, and community.
“I live in the sticks, the only thing to do is make music, hunt, fish, mud trucks… take care of the farm animals and the wife and kids,” he explains.
Weekends meant unwinding with friends, grabbing a drink, and enjoying the company of people you’ve known your whole life. “Everybody works their 9 to 5, has fun on the weekends, and everybody knows everybody.” That environment became the blueprint for his sound.
Country Rap as a Lifestyle
For Big Buck Beezy, country rap isn’t a trend, it’s a reflection of his reality. His music blends mudding, beer, moonshine, and trucks not because it’s popular, but because it’s authentic.
“Where I’m from, that’s all we do,” he says.
Every lyric is pulled from lived experience, making his songs feel less like performances and more like snapshots of everyday life in rural Wisconsin. It’s that authenticity that resonates with fans who see their own lives in his music.
The Name That Stuck
The name “Big Buck Beezy” wasn’t carefully crafted in a boardroom, it came from a real moment with a real friend. Early in his career, Beezy went by a different name until fellow artist Who TF Is Justin Time suggested something bigger.
“We tossed around jokes for a bit, then he said ‘Big Buck Beezy,’ and we both knew right then and there that was it,” he recalls.
The name fits more than just his sound, it reflects his roots. Hunting is a major part of his family tradition, with deer camps held on family land. “It just seemed right to call me Big Buck Beezy.”
Influences Across Genres
Beezy’s sound is a melting pot of inspiration. From hip-hop legends to country greats, he pulls from everywhere.
“The OGs—50, Dre, Eminem… there’s so many influences,” he says.
But his taste doesn’t stop there. “I’m a fan of all music, not just one type.” That openness allows him to blend genres naturally, creating a style that feels both familiar and fresh.
The Independent Grind
Like many independent artists, Beezy’s journey has come with its share of obstacles, especially financially. Building a career without major backing takes time, money, and relentless effort.
“The biggest challenge is, and always will be, financial,” he admits.
Still, his mindset keeps him pushing forward: “Stay consistent, be true to yourself, and never give up.” For Beezy, success isn’t overnight—it’s earned through persistence.
When a “Throwaway” Becomes a Hit
One of Beezy’s most popular tracks, “My Friends,” almost never saw the light of day. What started as a joke quickly turned into something much bigger.
“At first we thought it was just a throwaway… we were just messing around,” he says.
But after finishing the track and deciding to release it anyway, it took off. “Next thing you know, it started gaining traction and becoming everyone’s favorite.” The lesson? “Don’t hold nothing back, you never know what might work.”
Building Through Collaboration
Collaboration has been a key part of Beezy’s growth, often rooted in genuine relationships. Many of the artists he works with are people he’s built connections with over time.
“A lot of them I looked up to, so it only seems right to make music with them,” he says.
His track “Send It” featuring Big Murph marked a major milestone. “Big Murph was my very first big feature I ever got,” he adds, a moment that helped elevate his career.
Moments That Define the Journey
Life on the road has given Beezy memories he’ll never forget. One standout moment came when he opened for Polo G at Scheels Arena in front of 20,000 fans.
“There’s nothing quite like that,” he says.
Another turning point was his first Redneck Rave. “That’s when a lot of things opened up to me,” he explains, crediting the experience with expanding his vision for what’s possible in country rap.
Staying True in a Changing Genre
As country rap continues to evolve, Beezy remains focused on authenticity. He doesn’t chase trends—he stays rooted in his reality.
“It’s all authentic rap about my lifestyle… what we do every day,” he says.
For him, the music is simply an extension of his life. “It’s not just a music style, it’s a way of life.”
What’s Next: New Music and the Open Road
Big things are on the horizon for Beezy. With a major tour lined up and new music constantly in the works, he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
“We have a huge tour coming up this year… so many stops all over,” he says.
Fans can also expect a new album toward the end of the summer, along with several singles dropping along the way. “There’s always something new and exciting going on, just keep your eye open.”
Grounded by Family and Real Life
Despite the growing spotlight, Beezy stays grounded in what matters most: his family and his everyday life.
“My family, kids, and wife… just being a normal guy,” he says.
Whether he’s working on his land or taking care of animals, those moments continue to inspire his music and keep him connected to his roots.
Dream Collaborations and Big Inspirations
When it comes to dream collaborations, Beezy’s list spans genres and generations.
“2Pac, Ozzy, Alan Jackson, Post Malone, Pharrell… the list goes on and on,” he says.
For him, it’s not just about fame, it’s about working with artists who’ve left a lasting impact, regardless of genre.
Advice for the Next Generation
Looking back on his journey, Beezy has one clear message for aspiring artists: stay real and stay ready.
“Be yourself, be authentic, work hard, never give up,” he says.
He also stresses the importance of humility and resilience. “Be ready for people to love you and hate you at the same time… be willing to fail, win, and do it all over again.”
Above all, his message is simple but powerful: “Never switch up on your people for money or fame.”
